• Introduction

The Hong Kong & Kowloon Timber Merchants Association was established in 1931 as one of the first timber industry associations in Hong Kong. Because of legislative requirements, we have re-registered ourselves as “Hong Kong &Kowloon Timber Merchants Association Limited” in 2000. As of today, we have became the only specialized timber trade association in Hong Kong, replacing other industry associations established post World War II.

Throughout the years, we’ve adhered to our founding mission and objectives, which is to promote industry related developments; safeguard the interest of the industry and our members; support the timber needs of Hong Kong; and educate and provide training for our industry participants. As a non-profit organization, we have actively participated in community affairs, giving back what we gained from the society to the society.

Succession in the timber industry is not easy; over the years, our industry has moved from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon and the New Territories, eventually moving into Mainland China. The Hong Kong timber industry is now facing the world, with operations in North America, Africa, Eastern Europe, Malaysia and many parts of China.

The Association will continue to promote timber sustainability, introducing latest updates to timber standards, increasing the efficiency for timber usage and ensuring successful implementation of lumber environmental certification. We will actively participate in the movement to reduce wood disposal to landfills in Hong Kong, and encourage better formaldehyde management in households.

We hope that we would be able to continue to serve the people of Hong Kong with the help of our members’ perseverance, and the support and recognition from the Government and the people of Hong Kong.
